Hi, Apologies for cross posting but I am not 100% sure which forum is best
for this question. I have an IBM T30 laptop and am trying to use a spare
monitor that I have as an extension of the laptop screen when I am home.

The laptop has an ATI Mobility Radeon 7500, and I can get the monitor to
start as a clone, but for some reason I cannot get it as an extension. If I
go into the help option under Display > Settings > Advanced > Displays then
it tells me how to. But the buttons which it says to press if I want to
extend the monitor to the right or down are missing.

Any ideas on what I need to do to get my desktop extended? Not sure if
anyone needs some more information, any help appreciated. Thanks.

Ian

Do you have 2 video cards?

To use the multiple monitor support feature, you need a PCI or AGP video
adapter for each monitor. If you have an onboard video adapter (one that
is not a plug-in card but is part of the motherboard) that you want to
use as part of a multiple-monitor configuration, it must be set as VGA.
For more information about configuring multiple monitors, see the
Windows 2000 Resource Kit.

It's only the 1 video card, but because it's a laptop I should be able to
use dual monitors. I can start the "clone" monitor no problems, but the
option for "extend your desktop" is not there.

Will take a look at the resource kit you mention. Thanks.

If the Video card only has the equivalent of a "splitter" then it's
impossible to do anything more than send the same signal to either or
both monitors at the same time.
