I have a laptop which can not establish a connection with
any network shared resource.
The laptop is used at work and home. At work it gets
assigned an IP via DHCP. At home the Alternate
Configuration is a static IP. The laptop can connect to
the internet at both home and work. Simple File Sharing
is disabled.
At work I can map from other computers (Windows2000 and
WindowsXP) to drives on the laptop. The laptop can
connect to the internet and the local Exchange server.
However the laptop can not connect to any Windows File
Shares on the network. As I said though, if I share a
folder or drive on the laptop other computers can connect
to it.
At home the situation is very much the same. I can use
other home computers to connect to the laptop
(WindowsXP). However, the laptop can not connect to any
of the other shared resources on the network. The laptop
is unable to connect to the PC that is sharing the
printer. The laptop is unable to connect any of the
shared drives or folders on any of the PCs on the home
network. Again as before all of my home PCs are able to
connect to any shared resources on the laptop.
Steps taken thus far:
1). Ensure Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled
2). Ensure Computer Browser is Set to Automatic and
Started.
3). Uninstalled and re-installed "File and Printer
Sharing for Microsoft Networks".
4). Used a different network card for the laptop
(different chipset, different drivers).
5). Different locations and cabling tested (home and
work).
Other Noteworthy Symptoms:
After any attempt to connect to a network shared resource
shutting down windows brings up an "End Program" dialog
for Explorer.exe.
