My printer has suddenly stopped working. In Admin Tools/System i see that print spooler is on stop (although alos on automatic). I am unable to change that to start - it returns to stop. the apply box is no active. Any advice.

I have two - brother HL 1230 Laser and on a USB hp psc 110 - both have been working fine till now and I had changed nothing. I am getting two error meesages - 1: Spool Subsystem App has encountered a problem ---etc. and now a new one 2: The procedure entrry point GetIUMS could not be located in the dynamic link library MSDAR.DLL. I have been to the command and net start spooler and also sfc /scannow - this asks me for a disc which I don't appear to have. I have put in a disc which has reinstalled windows and its after this that the second error message appeared. I think I've made things worse.

Try this:

Go to the folder c:\windows\system32\spool\printers. If there are recent files, cut them to an other location (for backup if this doesn't work). Then restart Windows XP.
I had this problem and this solved it.

Good luck

Try Cari's suggestion here:

Thank you Hans - you solved the problem without having to go into the murky depths of the computer which all the other solutions suggested
