unable to download hotmail or yahoo or gmail attachement

I can't download attachment from my personal email (hotmail, yahoo, gmail)..
when i click an attachment the mouse take the shape of sand clock with out
the appearance of the normal box (open,Save,Cancel)
I am using windows 2000 NT , i am using a company laptop , i can't format or
reinstall windows
Need urgent reply
