Hi,
I seem to be having a problem being able to download files from the
web. When i press on a download link it just takes me to the page and puts
the address in the address bar
for eg " http:www.gofer.com/download.htm/download.exe" but IE does
not bring up the download box. Its like i've lost the association. Help
please

It is possible that you have a browser hijack, download
this file(it should let you as it is a direct download
link)

Run this little fella and let us know how it goes.

Cheers!

Thanks for the try but that said it was clear.
It seems as if windows is now not associated with downloads. The only way I
could get to that file was to copy the url into a download manager. It seems
that windows doesn't have a program associated with downloads so therefore
it just goes to the page without downloading. How would I re establish
windows/ explorer as the download manager.

Try right clicking on the *.exe download link and selecting Save As. If
this initiates the download correctly with these steps, it is likely that
the computer you're using has or had one of the beta or release candidates
of Service Pack 2 installed. NOTE: This issue will most likely be corrected
for the official release.

HI Sharon yes i can download that way. Unfortunately i use AOL as a provider
and I can't use that option in their software. Is there anyway I can recover
the usual download action?

AOL uses core files from IE as its browser: it adds a different window
frame and uses some AOL only commands/features. If signed on to the AOL
service, the browser will navigate through the AOL gateway to the internet
site instead of going straight to the site. The added "functionality" from
AOL does not always produce perfect results.

If the problem downloading only happens from the AOL browser, suggest
contacting their technical support or just launch IE in a separate window
to use it "straight up."

In case the problem is in IE only as well, take a look at the following
information: http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers_8.htm#downloading
