Unable to download Defender

Every time I try to download Windows Defender it opens an application on my
laptop called Web Lab Viewe! If I try to save the download it saves as a Web
Lab viewer file. I have windows XP. Has anyone come across or have an answer
for this peculiar problem.

I've seen this precise symptom posted by another user here, but with a
different application involved.

I am not certain I ever solved this for the other user, but this would be my
recommendation to try first:

Download and install the Windows Installer 3.1

This should already be in place on your system, but lets see whether
reinstalling it fixes the file associations.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it did not work, I will have to pass on
Defender for the time being.
