I am sending this to several newsgroups, because I am not sure which is the
most appropriate one. I apologize for the multiple postings.

I am trying to download security updates for Windows 2000 Professional, and
I am unable to get the downloads to work. In fact, I am unable to download
any
updates for any of my applications.

Because of multiple past security problems with Internet Explorer and
Outlook Express, I have had to equip my system with the following security
applications:
ZoneAlarm
Spybot Search and Destroy
Secretmaker
AdAware

When I posted something about this earlier, it was suggested that I shut
down
ZoneAlarm. I did that, and it did not help.

Help!!!

Thank you.

Hi;

First, when you say you are unable to download any updates, does that
mean you can't download anything at all from any website? Or just the
MS ones? For example, what happens if you attempt to download this
update:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...20-01fb-4029-a524-f3ae08f8bb28&displaylang=en

Second, what errors are you getting? Look in the Windows Update.LOG
file (in your Windows folder) and check the lines for the most recent
Windows Update session; look for 0Xxxxxxxxx error numbers in those
lines.

Do you have MS sites listed in the "good" or "allowed" (not sure what
terminology that package uses) section of Secretmaker? Suggest you turn
that off for debugging purposes. Are you on a network or standalone
desktop? Are you using a Proxy?
