Unable to do critical updates

Eric

I recently had a hard drive blue screen on me. After
scanning the drive it was determined that the drive had a
bad sector on it. Still being unable to get back into the
GUI I used the recovery console to attempt a repair of bad
or corrupted system files. After doing the repair the
system was up and running fine. However, it will not let
me do any of the windows critical updates.

I am curious to find out if anyone has had this issue
before, and if so did they find an answer to solve it. I
have been all over the net and have come up empty handed.

Thanks

Eric

When a hard drive has a bad sector, that means that a small portion of its
surface is physically damaged. It has nothing to do with "bad or corrupted
system files", and no amount of repair of bad
or corrupted system files will fix a bad sector. Having a bad sector does
not affect your computer's ability to obtain updates from Windows Update, so
if you can't get critical updates it must be for a different reason.

Since hard drives contain millions of sectors, you shouldn't be concerned if
one of your drive's sectors has become damaged. It's not common, but it does
happen and through no fault of your own. Windows will simply work around it
by not storing any information in the damaged sector. However, if you
continue to receive bad sector messages, you should consider replacing your
hard drive.

Eric;
Go to the hard drive manufacturers web site and download their hard
drive diagnostics.
You may have a small problem that is solved or you may have a small
but growing problem.
