When I load up outlook a pop up informs me that outlook cannot open up the
default email files... I cannot use outlook for email at all... I cannot use
the options tab in the tools menu...
Please help

State your Outlook version.
State whether Outlook ever worked.
If so, state what you did just before it stopped working.
Outlook is telling you it cannot find or access it's data file. Only you
would have a clue why that might be. Is your Outlook data on an Exchange
server or stored on your local machine?

Outlook 2002 sp3...
Always used outlook express, so I'm not sure if it worked or not...
It's not on an Exchange and there is no access to my local from another
computer...
Thanks for your quick reply and please excuse my ignorance...

So are you saying this is the first time you've ever tried Outlook and it's
not working?
Have you configured an Outlook profile with a mail account and a data file?

Yes that's exactly what I'm saying... I set up a profile but everytime I try
to open outlook it keeps saying cannot open the item please try again... I
try to open the view/ go to/ inbox menu but it continues to say cannot open
item. it askes if I want to open computer files which then opens an explorer
type screen.

List the steps you used.
Can't tell what you did wrong without knowing that.
Did you read the directions I posted?

I'm responding to an old thread. I just installed xp office and everything,
word, excel etc. installed fine. Outlook however gives me the message "cannot
find default email files". I have office 2002. Get my email via Yahoo but
can't get into tools to put in the information. Appreciate your help if
possible

So when you created your PST during the install process, where did you say
to create it?
