Everyone,

I have been tasked with enable the XP builtin Firewall for all our
remote XP users. I have a VB script that will enable the firewall on
all network and dial up connections. I now want to use the upgraded XP
GPO to " Prohibit the use of the ICF on your DNS domain" to turn it
off when they are on the network. I have tested the policy on a test
OU and it appears to be pushed but never applied on my test client.
The error I receive is:

Event ID: 1054
Windows cannont obtain the domain controller name for your computer
network. (The specified domain either does not exist or could not be
contacted). The Group Policy processing aborted.

Does any one know how to correct this or a possible work around? All
of our clients are using DHCP.

Thanks in Advance,

Michael

Michael, I enabled that Policy and that worked fine for our XP.

You moved the Computer account to the respective OU you applied the policy,
right ?

Check to see if your XP clients are getting DHCP IP address OK. XP has fast
logon feature enabled by default. There is also policy \Always wait for
network at startup and logon but test that out first. I enabled for some
computers and I didn't have good results.
