I have installed Win2K Prof on a HP Pavillion PC. Everything works fine
except Modem is unable to recognize. In the device properties listing there
is a small yellow exclamation on PCI controller. I opened the PC and could
not identify the modem type or manufacturer. Then I have erased the OS and
installed a XP home edition. That recognised it as Lucent Win Modem. I have
erased the OS again and installed Win2K Prof (It is a requirement that this
PC should have Win2K). I downloaded the Lucent Win Modem (v822) from internet
on another PC and tried to apply these driver. The system says it is not a
matching driver. Even if I force to install these drivers the modem is not
operational. (Unable to Start). Any suggestions, please?

This might help:
(1) Check if the Port is opened in BIOS. You will find a COM1 EFH8 (or
something like that) in BIOS. Change the settings and it should auto detect.
OR
(2) If it is an internal modem try to insert the modem in a different PCI
slot. It once worked with me.
