Unable to delete printer

I'm trying to help my neighbor who has a Compaq with XP
Home.

He has two printers (hp3820) on the "printers and Faxes"
page in deleting mode. They stay there through reboots.
What is happening? Are they really there or what?

He can reinstall the printer again [hp3280(3)] and it
seems to work. He can deinstall the third. In all cases,
the other two stay there. Is there anything I can do to
clear this up (and seem like a wizard to him}?
 
I'll have to check but I don't think there are any jobs
queued for either printer.

If that is the case, then where do I go from here?

Ensure there are no documents still in the queue... right click each printer
and cancel all documents.

download the driver for the printer from www.hp.com

it should have an uninstaller option on it to help remove
the printer drivers from the list. also make sure your
printer is no longer connected during the uninstall process
 
Mea Culpa!!!

As it turned out, there were jobs queued for each of the
printers to be deleted!!!!! As soon as I deleted them, the
printers just went away as they were supposed to.
