Hi all,

One of my applications did not terminate cleanly. It
created a file. I tried to delete the file. The following
error message appeared.

'Cannot delete Data.fs: It is being used by another or
program. Close any programs that might be using the file
and try again.'

I made sure I closed all programs. I still can not delete
it. I also tried rename the file, restart my computer, but
the problem persists.
How can I delete the file?

thanks for your time.

Justin

I have a similar problem, but it's not a crashed app that
locks up my folders... it's the explorer itself. The only
thing left for me to do is kill the explorer process. It
will restart and then all my locked folders are ready to
get deleted.

In your case I would suggest to kill the process that locks
your files. You can do that after alt-strg-del and popping
up the taskmanager. If you don't know which app locks your
files or folders use this WORKAROUND (MS techies listen up.
... You force us to use a work-around! AMAGAD):

---(VERY comfortable context menu extension proggy)

http://sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml
---(the standard tool for process investigations, but not
so easy to use)

Microdudes! Fix this ****!

Punk! There's a better way!

Kill the stale process. In doubt it's the explorer which
locks the file.
