Attempts to create or access restore points generate error message "Volume
Shadow Copy service not working", "VSS disabled - please enable". Event is
0x81000202. Also, in attempting to create, Property window opens, but no
disk is listed for restore point selection and all options are grayed out.
Files VSSVC.exe and rstrui.exe appear to be present and intact. Previous
Restore Point creation and sue have been successful. System is Vista Home
Basic. How do I "enable" Volume Shadow Copy Service? Any help or experience
with this problem.

Same problem here. Volume Shadow Copies Not Working, same error.

Go to Start and type services.msc in the Search box. In the results,
click Services.

Maximize the Services window, scroll down and double click "Volume Shadow
Copy". In the Startup Type menu, select Automatic. Apply/OK. Exit and reboot
the computer.

Try to create a manual restore point.

Hi
I have the same error message when accessing system restore on vista home
premium 64 but my problem is i cannot find volume shadow copy service in the
services list to enable it
It worked ok until i uninstalled norton internet security using norton tool

Hi
Further to my reply above i have noticed that on running vssadmin under cmd
prompt i get Error:Unexpected failure:The specified service does not exist as
an installed service
I ran system file checker and it did not find any errors in system files.

Help.
