Hi, I'm running win2K professional and have administrator
and operator logon settings. I have encountered instances
where I can click to copy a file/folder but unable to
paste (i.e. greyed out in the menu). This is when i'm in
the admninistrator mode. Sometimes, rebooting the PC will
clear this hiccup and sometimes it won't. Logoff and
logging back in don't help too.

Thanks in advance
Cheong

That sounds like operating system corruption or possibly a problem with a worm/virus.
Look in Event Viewer for any clues and run a full system virus scan with the latest
definitions and try booting into safe mode to see if the problem persists. If safe
mode fixes the problem you have a problem with a startup program/service/driver and
may use msconfig [copy from XP or download via internet search] to troubleshoot via
selective startup.

If safe mode does not help and no viruses are found then try System File Checker -
sfc /scannow which may require the install cdrom or at worst case an in place upgrade
install that will require reinstall of first service pack and then critical
pdates. --- Steve

Hi Steve,

Thanks so much for the advise.

let me elaborate more on the problem. it only happens
sometimes and sometimes after rebooting , it's gone. Also,
I can copy /move anytime from the cmd window when it
doesn't work in windows.

Thanks again.

It's a definately virus called Gaobot.
Please visit http://www.willamette.edu/wits/virus/gaobot.htm & search with
