I have a new computer running XP. It is on a home LAN
with 4 other computers connect via a Linksys router to a
DSL line. I use AOL. I cannot get my new computer to do
automatic updates, download anything from Microsoft or
even register my version of XP. I keep getting server not
found or "0x800a138f" messages. All other computers on
the network work fine and I get the automatic updates and
was able to register online. I tried to download SP1a
from microsoft but that even bombed with a server not
found. Even when I am logged on using AOL and try I get a
message unable to connect to the internet, try dialup.
Any ideas?

Hi,

First, try accessing the microsoft sites through Internet Explorer rather
than the AOL interface, this is a known issue. Second, 0x800A138F is a
generic error, we need something more specific.

Open Windows Explorer to C:\Windows and locate the windowsupdate.log scroll
to the bottom and look at the last error codes. Post back with that they
are.

Also, see if this helps:
