I am using an Enterprise version of Win2k and just
finished rebuilding my system, after moving into a new
building. After changing my network settings to the
network settings for our new building, I can ping
computers on the University's domain, can get/send email
using Pine, and can connect to web sites only on the
university domain. I cannot connect to any site ouside
of the UW domain (browser times out - both IE and
Mozilla). My system is clean, checked with a new version
of McAfee VS and I am using a McAfee firewall (I still
had the same problem even before installing the
firewall). I'm stumped - I'm sure it's something simple
(..at least I hope so...). Does anyone have any
suggestions? Cheers....

Sounds as if the dns server you are using does not forward to a dns server for
internet name resolution, a firewall [maybe one at the perimeter of the network] is
blocking outbound internet access, you have an incorrect default gateway, or are
configured to use a proxy server in IE connection/lan settings properties which by
default would bypass the proxy server for the internal network. Try entering
207.46.245.214 in the IE address bar with your software firewall disabled.. If you go
to a Microsoft Website then it is a problem with your dns server, if not then you
have one of the other problems. --- Steve
