Unable to connect to the domain

Windows 2000 server

Client : windows xp pro sp1

When I try to log on to the domain .. I got the following error message :

Windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the domain controler is
down or otherwise unavailable, or because your computer account was not found.

We tried to remove the computer from the active directory .. and to disjoin
and rejoin the domain ... it's successfull .. but the computer is not
appearing in active directory ??? And when we try to log on again later .. we
have the same error message !

Did somebody see that already ?? What did you do to fix it ???

There may have some problem on DNS resolution. You can run NSLOOKUP to
check whether your DNS server is accessible, and the domain service record
is present as well. You can use the SET TYPE=SRV to assist your
investigation.
