I have followed the direction, (I think), on MS's page describing how to
setup both the host computer, (my desktop, which is hardwired), and the
remote computer, (my laptop, which is wireless) in order to work from the
remote computer. I operate both using a Verizon FIOS router which is
connected with wires to 2 desktops and 2 printers, and wirelessly to the
laptop. I have been able to enable printing from the laptop to either of the
printers. I use all for work. I have all of the computers set up so that I
do not have to log in when they boot up; they boot up ready to go from the
desktop of each computer. I am not sure if I have them networked properly.
I have a pretty good knowledge of working with and setting up computers, but
obviously, there are many gaps in my knowledge. I would like to be able to
use the laptop to access both the programs and the folders and files on one
of the desktops, which is my primary work computer. If possible, I would
also like to be able to do this on the road, where ever I might be able to
access the internet, as that is a primary reason for having the laptop, to
use at client locations. But, even if I can't do that part, I really would
like to access it as noted above from the home location. As I say, I walked
through the steps on the MS page describing how to do this, but when I reach
the point of accessing the desktop from the laptop, I have to enter my user
name and a password?, something which I do not have to do on any of the
computers themselves. As a result, I can go no further, as the "login" fails
at that point. I have user names and passwords for the router and my
protection on the computers themselves, but there are none to logon to the
computers, as I mentioned above. I have tried them all anyway, but to no
avail.
What am I missing? Or what am I doing wrong?
Thanks Very Much for any help you might be able to give me
