Unable to connect Emulator to LAN

Hi all

I'm having a terrible time with a pocketPC2003 application I'm
developing. I can't seem to find any way to connect to my local
network. I am able to access the internet, and connect to my IIS
server, but for some reason, I am totally unable to connect to the
network so I can use RDA against the host's SQL database.

So far I have:
Installed the loopback adapter
Downloaded the virtual machine network services driver
Tried using Active Sync 4.1
Tried using Acrive Sync 3.8
Tried re-installing WinXPSP2 and VS2005 (release edition) from scratch
Tried to enable the NE2000 network adapter bound to every option
available...

With no luck. I'm not a networking guru, and it is possible that I've
done something stupid in my setup, but I would welcome any suggestions
as to what that might be.

Thanks in advance.

Are you working on a device or the emulator. Did you check the connection
settings in Active Sync? Is the SQL server on your local machine - if not,
are there any firewalls such as XPSP2's enabled? If you are working with
the emulator in VS2005, check out the emulator help file.

I had the same problem. I am running Activesync 4.1 Make sure on the
Connection Settings for Activesync "Allow connections to one of the
following" is checked and DMA is selected in the drop down. Also, in the
emulator itself, make sure that the connection type is selected to Work in
both the choices. I cant remember exactly what it is called. This worked
for me.

I have SQL server on my local machine, and I disabled the firewall.

I think I have checked, unchecked, and studied every connection setting
that exists in Active Sync, but to no avail. Also on the emulator--I
had both drop-downs set to "work"".

I did some more playing and finally coerced the device to communicate
via the NE2000 bound to my physical network card, but I still can't
talk to the network via Active Sync. (I found that you have to
completely reset the saved state of the emulator before it accepts a
different network card binding). I suppose for the time being I can
proceed, but it seems strange that this would be so difficult.

Another fellow suggested that perhaps an improperly un-installed beta
of VS2005 is causing my problems, but I used the canned MS uninstall
utility, so it should be OK... I would think. I tried to
re-format/re-install WinXP and VS2005, but no luck.

Ten years ago I would have thought that someday issues like this would
be gone because the software would work out of the box. Harumph.
