I have Outlook 2003 on Windows XP Professional. I had installed my email
server (Cox) and for a week or so everything was fine. Then I noticed I was
not getting my mail and and I went to the Webmail site on Cox and saw a
number of messages that were not coming through. Nothing had changed on the
computer. I have another edition of Outlook on my notebook with the same
connection and there is no problem with it. Anyway I deleted the profile
through the wizard and reinstalled all the data. The test message always
comes back as failed saying the server was reached but there was no response
and to check port settings to see they are correct. The port settings remain
the same. Any help/suggestions appreciated

Are you sure? Do you use any Symantec application (like Norton Antivirus or
Norton Internet Security)? Symantec's applications often don't play well
with Outlook and they've been known to update themselves (which they often
do without your knowledge) and break their integration with Outlook enough
to cause what you see.

No I do not have any Symantec products. I can't think of anything that I
changed. Haven't installed any new programs. Not sure what to do. Should I
reinstall Outlook completely?? Can I simply install over the product or does
it have to be removed completely first? It was so simply at first, now a
problem.

And now for no explicable reason everything has returned to normal. I made
one change that should not have affected the program but perhaps it did.
Looking for a way to have photo attachments open immediately and be seen
without having to individually clicking each one I changed the security
options to allow automatic downloading and viewing. Perhaps that, in the
end, was the answer??
Any thoughts??
