Unable to Compact Database

I am currently unable to compact my Access 97 database.
It is already over 350mb. Could you please give me any
suggestions on how to correct what I have done wrong so
that I can correct the problem.

Yes I am getting an error message, in fact it tells me
that it must close the database and that is the circle
that I am in.

Download and try out the JetComp.exe utility on a backup of your db.

If you continue to have this problem and connot find a
resolution create a new DB and import all the
tables/queries/forms/reports/macros/modules
