I installed a new copy of XP Home ed. SP2 and all critical updates on my
Aunty's PC and her IE6 is now firmly stuck on uk.msn homepage. After a
several attempts over several weeks I still can't shift it. I've dug in the
registry, also in Safe Mode and am barred from deleting the "Start Page" as
mentioned in:-
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320159/?sd=RMVP
I tried working offline and deactivating AVG and Zone Alarm / and
uninstalled Ewido.
Treid running CWshredder, Spybot 1.4, and Adaware - all found nothing.
....now I suppose Spybot will be locking it as well !
Started a "clean boot," http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353/
i.e. ran Msconfig and unchecked Process System.ini File, Process Win.ini
File, and Load Startup Items and rebooted | ran msconfig straight away and
in the "Load Startup Items" check box a "greyed out" tick had reappeared in
it !
Is it worth me, ...would it be quicker to run
http://www.theeldergeek.com/repair_reinstall_ie_and_oe_6.htm method 2, which
would reinstall IE6 SP1 Would there be a problem with that seeing as her
XP Home is currently SP2 ?
I exported her entire registry onto my pen drive as a text file which I
could upload to my unused (atm) web site if that would be of any use...?
TIA
