Please!!!
can anybody help me, I need to setup a new computer on a
small workgroup with the need to share resources, when I
originally installed XP I gave it a computer name now I
need to change this computer name and I can't. It tells
me that I can't use certain symbols such as !@#$": and so
on, even though I don't have any of those symbols.

Thats a strange one. Have u tried installing SP1 for
winxp?? Remember u must have admin rights.
Otherwise try using repair option from cd.

.Thanks for a quick reply, but have to sya that I have
tried this. I am able to change the workgroup name but
not the computer name for some reason. Is there some
way of getting in there and removing the compputer name
totaly and then try giving it a new name instead of
trying to change it.

Cheers

The easiest way to change your computer name is to right
click on my computer and go to the computer name tab...
Keep in mind that SPACES in the computer name will cause
this message to pop up as well, which is probably your
problem.
