I have 3 accounts on my computer. One belongs to my wife (limited) the second
belong to me (administrato). There is also an "Administrator" account which
does not show at the "welcome" screen. I use alt+ctrl+del at the login screen
to get to the Administrator account.
I want to downgrade my account to "limited". When I try to do so, I get the
message to "there has to be at least one administrator account and to
designate another account as the administrator" before you can change
security settings for my account. What am I missing. Why is Xp missing the
"administrator" account?

The Administrator account is built-in, should not be used for every day
work, and cannot be deleted. You must have at least one other user account
with administrative privileges which is why you are getting the error. XP
isn't "missing" anything; it is working as designed. It is foolish to have
only one administrative account on the computer in case it becomes corrupt.
Always have a backup plan.

Create a new user account with administrative privileges and call it
something like "Extra" or whatever you like. You don't ever have to use it.
Now you will be able to make your account limited or even make a new user
account for yourself that is limited if you'd like to keep your old one as
is.
