I am unable to capture or configure any video when I click on "Capture from
Video Device".

I get a dialog box that says, " the device cannot be used at this time
because there is an error when starting the device."

I have tried a Digital Camcorder connected with S-video and USB.
I have tried a Digital still camera connected with USB.
Both units were turned on.

When Capture video is clicked, the dialog box always appears whether or not
any device is connected.

Any ideas
Thanks

Hello there,

Movie Maker requires a Digital input. There are some analog to digital converts
available and some connect via the USB port the quality will ne be so good
though as the "proper" way of doing it which is to connect your digital camera
through a firewire cable and card at which time you will be able to capture
fullDV-AVI video.

Please also note that SVHS is only a video chanel...there is no audio

I have a somewhat similar problem but after I on "capture from video device"
the error message reads, "A video capture device was not found". I have
installed and reinstalled the USP driver and still get this message for my
Panasonic MiniDV video camera. I used to be able to down load before I
installed the service pack 2. Should I also be using just a firewire? What
happened the the flexibility of using the USB I use to have? Are there any
settings in the program I should look at?

Thank you in advance.

Jello there,

Oh yes...if its a DV camera you must use a firewire card and cable...its the
only way you will get the quality and the right interface for MM.

USB is meant for the transfer of still images...if it worked prior to SP2 it
was a fluke.

Get a firewire cable. I, too, have a Panasonic Mini DV that would not be
recognized via USB2 after SP2. Works great with firewire. One of my kids
"lost" my original firewire cable, so I tried the USB thing. No good, except
it did work for copying pictures off the SD card (stills) inside the
Panasonic camera. A firewire cable will be the best 30.00 you ever spent.
