can anyone help?

i have a laptop which will not resolve DNS at all when
using the dial-up connection. It will dial-up and connect
fine, it has DNS servers and an IP address set in the
IPCONFIG page. - It will ping an address on the internet.
but will not display an internet page - says page cannot
be found.

does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Gavin.

Gavin,
Are you pinging by name or IP? Verify that the laptop doesn't have a firewall client or Winsock proxy client installed. This may be trying to redirect all your
queries to some proxy server. Also verify that IE doesn't have any proxy settings for your dial-up connection. Be sure to check the settings IE has for the dial-
up connection not the LAN connection. Lastly, verify if you have any firewall software installed or if the Internet Connection Firewall is running. This may be
blocking HTTP connections.

Thank you,
Mike Johnston

I am pinging by IP which works fine, and if I type in the
IP address in the web browser I can get to the web page,
but obvoiusly none of the links work. there is no firewall
or proxey set to the dial up connection.
It seams to be somthing to do with the profile or policy,
I am connecting to a windows 200 active directory with
roaming profile. IF a delete the folder under doc and
settings and relogin the folder is recreated and the dial
up will work and I can browse the internet with the lan
connection unplugged, until the next time i login and the
problem reappears.
any more advice would be much appreciated.

So Do you have a modem and a LAN card? Is this Windows 200 server, XP, NT or
