I installed XP Home version on my office computer. It had
been activated on my home computer. I can't backup using
the backup utility.

Can anyone figure out why?

I assume that I have to "activate" the one I used in the
office. But to do that, I have to buy another copy. I don't
think that this is fair of Microsoft.

Hi

Do you mean that you can't use the backup utility or it isn't installed on your XP Home Edition hard disk? If the latter, then the backup utility isn't installed by default with XP HE. You can find it in the valueadd\msft\ntbackup folder on the XP HE CD - double click on the ntbackup.msi file.

It's extremely difficult to figure out why with so little
information. What does "I can't backup" mean? Please describe
exactly what you've tried to do, and exactly what happened when
you tried, including the text, verbatim, of any error message you
receive.

Not being able to use backup has nothing to do with the fact that you have
a second invalid installation of XP.

You have two problems:
1) NT Backup on Home is intended for data backup only. The backup set
created by Automatic System Recovery (ASR) is not supported on XP Home.

2) You know what #2 is. I won't belabor the point but if you wrote software
for a living, you would think it was fair. Microsoft is not the only
company in the world that expects to get paid for each copy of software
being used.
