I tried to add some shortcuts to 'Send To', but am denied to access the
folder. This also seems to be an issue with some other user folders as well,
i.e. 'Application Data' & Local Settings. Is there some method or workaround
that will allow me access to these folders?

Thanks,
James

Scratch that. Figured it out (took ownership and changed permissions).

Thanks,
James

Hello,

These locations are not real folders. They are application compatability
junctions that point legacy applications that try to access files inside of
them to the new location. The security restrictions are in place for a good
reason - they prevent applications from crashing/misbehaving when accessing
them - and should not be modified.

The new location for the send to folder is:

C:\Users\%USER%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo

Thanks for the path. I thought I had checked there, but I must have missed
it. As for security, I removed the permissions I added immediately after.
Any idea why a shortcut to 'Send To' shows up in the folder, but not in the
'Send To' context menu?

Thanks,
James

It works for me - In explorer, I dragged the selected SendTo folder in the
folders list into the contents pane and told it to create a shortcut. I
right-clicked on a file on my desktop, selected send to, and it was listed.

Make sure the shortcut does not have the hidden attribute.

Just tried it again and it worked. The original shortcut must have come from
the appcompat junction. At any rate, thanks for your time and expertise.
