I have a windows 2000 professional laptop. I am sharing a folder so that
others can access it from the network. I have an application that looks for
that shared folder and it runs on the remote PC's as well as on mine. If I
unplugged the network cable from from the laptop, I know that the others
will not se ethe shared folder anymore but hey , that is understandable.
Then I try to use only the application on my laptop, and even there can not
connect to the shared folder. Again, the cable is not connected, but I can
ping the laptop by using the loopback ip address 127.0.0.1 or the hostname
or computer name. So, why is it that I can not access the shared drive that
is on the same laptop? If I can ping the laptop with the cable unpluged, I
should be able to find the shared drive on the laptop by using
\\hostname\ShareFolder or \\127.0.0.1\SharedFolder becuase it is still on
the laptop. This application uses the shared folder in order to work and it
should work even of the cable is unplugged. Any ideas or clues.....
Thanks!!!
