I have recently reinstalled XP after numerous problems. I am now trying to
access user folders that were created before the reinstall. I can access all
bar one, which was an admin account (others were limited). Even when I log
in as admin I keep getting an access denied message.

How can I get around this? I need the files!

Have you tried taking ownership?

HOW TO: Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP

NOTE: You must be logged on to the computer using an account that has
administrative privileges. If you are running Windows XP Home Edition, in order
to have access to the Security tab, you must first start in Safe Mode and log on
with an account that has Administrative rights.

I tried, however I was unable to get the ownership tab to display.

a. The drive must be NTFS

Isn't that a given, in this case? FAT32 has no security capabilities,
so the OP wouldn't be having the problem described.

Sorry, Malke, but one doesn't often "catch you out." I just could
resist. ;-} Keep up the good work.

That's OK Bruce. I always appreciate your comments and I'll be more
careful. So the question is why the OP isn't getting the Security tab
if the drive is NTFS. Perhaps "I tried" really means he didn't read the
article thoroughly enough to go into Safe Mode if he has Home Edition.
Unless he comes back with details, we'll never know.

I figure that the remainder of your answer (about Simple File Sharing)
was probably spot on, as usual.
