None of them work. Some are 'stand alone' , and others are
categorized, along with others of a type in folders. If I 'hover' over the
ones in folders, I get a small window which lists all of the programs within
the folder. In that case all of the programs within the folder have the blue
(e) icon.

The stand alones all show the blue (e) of Internet Explorer. When I
hover over the IE icon, it shows me the complete URL that I SHOULD be
accessing. When I click on them to open I get this report: Windows cannot
open this file.
File: Default.asp To open this file, windows needs to know what program
created it. Windows can go online to look it up automatically, or you can
manually select from a list of programs on your computer. What do you want
to do? (and it gives me a choice of;) 'Use the web service to find the
appropriate program'. OR 'select the program from the list'. (Use web
service is already selected, but when I click OK, nothing what so ever
happens) .......If I choose to use 'Select from the list'; I get a new window
which shows me quite a few icons for different programs to use to open the
file, but the one shown as 'recommended' is:
Microsoft Word for Windows, and THAT sure doesn't work, and I can't figure
out how any of the others would either.......such as: Adobe Reader, Creative
Play Center, Family Tree Maker, FMWRI, Excel, Publisher, Notepad, Paint,
Printmaster, Ulead Instant Viewer, Windows, Windows Media Player, Picture and
Fax Viewer or WordPad.......That's all there is.
I run Windows XP with sp2, Spybot search & destroy, Adaware SE
Personal, Stinger, Spyware Blaster and AVG virus checker.
What is so peculiar is that when I click directly on any of my
listed favorites I get the messages that I named above. BUT if I manually
open IE and then minimize it to my toolbar, then all is well and I can go
anywhere that I choose.
I am getting desperate here, have tried every trick that I know of
and nothing seems to do anything to improve. Thanks for any help at all

Hi Pat :-)

It is possible that your Favorites folder has become corrupt, and you need
to create a new one.
Check the information here for instructions on how to do this:

Create a new Favorites folder as per the instructions here

You should also take a look at the information here:

Hope this helps :-)
