I copied some excel files from a windows 98 pc's to the cd-
rw. When i took the cd-rw disc to a windows xp pro pc it
would not read the data on the disc. i went back to the 98
machine and the data is on the cd-rw disc. why won't my xp
machine read the disc? is there anything i could do? is it
true that the cdfs is different from windows 98 to xp?

If you dragged and dropped the riles to CD or saved directly to CD from
within an application, the CD was packet written and you had some third
party software installed on your system such as Easy CD Creator's Direct CD
or Drag to Disk, www.roxio.com or the InCD component of Nero, www.nero.com
to perform that function.

While, in some cases, XP can read such disks, for the most part, it requires
having one such application installed on your system in order to read and
access CDs created in that fashion as XP's built in burning function does
not support packet writing,

If you are going to install such an application, be sure to visit the
manufacturer's website for versions compatible with XP and drives compatible
with those versions.
