Hi,

When I put my mouse cursor at the 'All Programs' tab in the start menu, the
program list would not pop up, contrary to the normal situation when the
program list would pop up. Is there anyway I can check my settings in the
registry to see if anything has been changed, or is there anyway I can fix
this?

Thanks, David

You might want to check the following before you dive into the
registry:
Right click an open spot on your Taskbar and select Properties
from the Menu.
Click on the Start Menu tab.
Click on the Customize button.
Click on the Advanced tab.
Make sure there's a check mark in the box next to "Open
submenus when I pause on them with my mouse".
Click OK twice and see if the menu now pops out.

If that doesn't fix the problem, try the following:
Go to Start -> Run and enter regedit.exe in the Open box.
Click OK.
In the registry editor, navigate to this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
In the right hand pane right click on MenuShowDelay.
Select Modify from the menu.
The number in the Value data box should be between 400 and 800.
If it's set to a very large number it would cause the behavior
you're describing.

Good luck

Hi Nepatsfan,

I am not too sure that this is the problem, but I have two particular
accounts on my laptop, one for my school, and one that i use at home (the one
that is having the problems right now), apparently, when i logged out of my
school account and logged in to my home account, Microsoft Spyware Security
Agent had 2 particular events popping out, which I chose differently.

1)The user KC, has decided to allow a change to the user's defined shell
folders for Programs to %USERPROFILE%\Start Menu\Programs.
2)The user KC, has decided to prevent a change to the user's defined shell
folders from Start Menu to %USERPROFILE%\Start Menu.

Is that what caused the problem in my system, and if that is true, how do I
rectify the errors?

Thanks,
David

David,

Those two alerts from Microsoft AntiSpyware certainly would top
my list of things to check out.

You might want to run MSAS, click on "Real Time Protection" and
click on "Blocked Events". Look in the list for entries that
might be related to your problem.

You might want to post this question to one of the MSAS
newsgroups. They can be accessed through the programs Help menu
or from this location:

Good luck
