Hi group!
Is there any keyboard driver around that allows me to type
umlauted characters in W2k with a standard US keyboard?
The best would be if I could use the useless context win-key
as compose key like it is possible on most other OSes.
If this is not possible, is there a way to edit the keymap to
change the effect of combinations with the right Alt key?
Please enlighten me...

Load the appropriate country driver (Control Panel / Keyboard /
Input Locales). If you load the German driver then you will map
öäü against these keys on your US keyboard: ;'[.

If you don't like this then you can use some of these tools to
remap your keyboard:
remapkey.exe (Win2000 Resource Kit)
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/ctrl2cap.shtml
http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/tools/msklc.mspx

Ümlaut!
Nothing special, just ASCII characters.
You can type 'em in by holding down the Ctrl key and typing 154 on the
keypad. Not all of 'em show up in my Free Agent but I can still put
in; ßeta, ½, ¼, 100°C, and a few others.
You can probably do a search for a chart that shows you the keycodes
and the ASCII characters it makes.

Overlord means the ALT key, not the Ctrl key.

Oop, thanks.
Sometimes I just let my fingers do the work.
Then afterwards I can't explain adequately what I did; wasn't watching
my fingers when they did it....

Hold down the ALT key. Whether yoou type 3 or 4 digits makes a
difference: ALT+154 is different from ALT+0154.

Also, you can get a table--either from a book or from the Internet
--that lists the numerical code for all of the ASCII characters.

--Good Luck.
