I'm using XP pro, and a USB connection for my Astra 2000 scanner. I
recently installed a usb 2.0 hub with 5 ports. Vistascan cannot find the
scanner. It was definitely working before installing the hub, and my other
usb devices work with the hub. I have about 3 usb devices.

When VScan starts, it dwells on a search and then puts up a test dialog.
I've seen this behavior before installing the hub. I usually cure it by
unplugging the scanner for a second, and then trying again. I've
uninstalled/installed the driver. On Control Panel's scanner/camera, it
knows I have a Astra 2000. The device drivers seem happy when I check their
properties. If I unplug the scanner and plug it in, XP knows and tells me
about it. It knows it's there. VScan doesn't.

Anyone know what the problem might be?

Did you try it again without the hub?

Plug the scanner directly into the USB on the computer and try again.

Some scanners do not work through a hub.

Yes, I tried without the hub. That is, plugging the cable into another 2
port usb (older) card. Ah, ha. I just recalled there's yet another usb port
next to the mouse. I plugged it in there, and it works. This stuff is very
strange. Thanks.

I think I'll check out the usb 5 port hub again, but I'm pretty confident I
have used it successfully. In fact, I have RadioShark plugged into it and
it works.

Very good that you got it working.

I think that Windows is strange.

You would think that Windows uses the same drivers for all of the USB ports,
but that is not true. Some device drivers have a different instance for each
port that the device is found. All ports do not work the same.

Most flavors of Windows will not allow two USB scanners to be active at the
same time. Even when on separate ports.
