Googling a bit on old acf messages, I saw Ultimate Paint listed as last
ad-free version (1.91f). Now I've found that exists a Freeware Edition (a
bit crippled, though):

Ultimate Paint Standard 2.86 LE (Freeware Edition)
Same as the trial version, but does not support Adobe plugins and has only
20 image filters built-in. Can be used without any limitations. Download,
uninstall the previous version, unzip the archive and start setup.exe.

Did anyone try this version? Comments?

I tried it recently. The interface is nicer than before, but it doesn't
seem to draw any better and most of the effects filters are missing. I
tried copying in the filter files from the old version, but it didn't
recognize them. Since I primarily use the program for the filters, I
uninstalled it and reinstalled the old version. :-)

Thank you Janice :-)

Thank you Janice :-)

You're welcome. :-)

One disadvantage of the older freeware version that I should mention is
that it doesn't work right with Windows XP. I don't know the specifics,
but this fact used to be mentioned on the Megalux website, and is
presumably one of the reasons a new version was released.

Ah, thanks very much for this, because I'm on Win XP and I was thinking to
download the older version. Now I'll go for the latest, also taking into
account that I don't use much the effects filters.

Ciao :-)

Seconded. Version 1.91f crashed regularly on my Windows XP SP1
machine. Thanks for your feedback Janice about both freeware
versions.
