If I do an in place upgrade of my XP Pro system with the full Vista
Ultimate Retail, will I be able in the future to use my XP Pro on a
different computer without removing my upgraded Vista and doing a full,
clean install of Vista ? For now I don't want to do a clean install to avoid
reinstalling all my apps. I will be in the future building a computer for my
son and would want to install XP PRO on it , so by buying the Full retail of
Vista does that free up my full XP to be used on another computer even
though I used the XP installation to upgrade to Vista?
Thanks,
Bob

Yes as you are using a FULL RETAIL license for Vista so your old XP
license is still valid . So as long as it is a version that you are
allowed to transfer to another PC (that is NOT an OEM copy) then of
course you can install it elsewhere.

As answered above

With a "full" license, you would be *replacing* the XP license with
another--as opposed to "wrapping" the XP license into a Vista "upgrade"
license. I would think how the install of Vista is performed is irrelevant
in this scenario, and thus your XP license is freed to do with as you
please.

You are correct. With a full edition the installation method is purely at
the convenience of the user.

Install went flawlessly and everything functions as expected. Nice smooth
install..Vista looks and feels great! Now I can build a computer for my son
who's in the Air Force in Montana..he'll be pleased!
Thanks,
