Does XP have different releases for different counties -
or does the same version cover worldwide?

If not does any one know if there are any differences
between UK and US editions of windows XP ?

Thanks

I purchased WinXP PRO OEM when I was in the USA two years ago. If there are
any differences I have yet to see them them cause a problem. I am English
but happen to live in Belgium.

For example:

The "Regional and Language Options" menu on the control panel allow you to
set:
"Standards and formats" to "English (United Kingdom)".

The languages tab allows you to select:
Installed services (keyboard - United Kingdom)
Default Input Language - English (United Kingdom)

etc.

About 1905, in the US. a guy called Webster published a "simplified English"
dictionary. Which explains why Americans can't spell (he deleted all
superfluous vowels - "labor" i.o. "labour", classic example, and modified
many other standard words). Reading an American English "help file" becomes
a real pain to a literate English person - those typos stick out like sore
thumbs !! - I'm retired after nearly 40 years working for US corporations -
well experienced in this !!
Other than that - buying in the US probably got you a later "build" than was
available in their Export marketplace, but as said in an earlier post, XP is
a multinational product configurable to most countries/languages.
