Two flights from Reus, in Catalonia, thought to be to Ireland, and two in Menorca to British destinations, were cancelled. A British Embassy spokesman in Madrid said: "We have had quite a few calls into the consulates in Las Palmas in Gran Canaria and Alicante. We are offering consulate help."

This country is more expensive to holiday in than Spain, Belgium, Morocco - the list is endless.

And foreign hospitality often outstrips UK equivalent.

Not always though.

I'll see you in Polperro :)

And if it's raining in Polperro we'll ride the cable car in Barcelona.

I want it now.

Some of the best holidays I have had, have been in this wonderfully wet country, and a good few of them have been spent in a tent..So much beauty in this country, yet everybody goes abroad...Save money holiday UK..

That's a phenomenal amount of people to be effected  I hope that most booked on a credit card if they aren't protected by insurance/ATOL - otherwise it's going to be expensive :(

Funny you mention it, I was looking at how much it would be to get the train to Edinburgh and stay in a hotel for a few days... for the same price it would be cheaper to go abroad for a week on a package deal

I do find it strange that I've had flights that have been cheaper than the taxi to Manchester airport!

I've flown to Ireland a good few times for less than a Zone 1- 6 tube pass..Good old Ryan Air

Holidays in the countries that use the euro are now getting much more expensive. I've been to Spain and Portugal this year and I've noticed a big difference compared to last year.

The US is also getting more expensive so the only answer is non-euro countries like North Africa, Turkey, the far East and South Africa. Trouble is that the further afield you go the more it costs to get there.
