As the home of the english language, one sometimes gets a bit put off
by the americanisation in international software

One of those that bugs me is when I'm writing a letter and when I
input 'yours'

up pops a dialogue balloon which offers to insert 'truly', when I want
to insert either 'sincerely' or 'faithfully'

how do you change this and other balloon popups?

Also, as a newbie to posting re word, what is the best newsgroup to
post this message to?

Yes, annoys me too. Anyway, in Word 2002, guess it's much the same in
Word 2003, it's in Insert->AutoText->AutoText. Add 'Yours sincerely' and
'Yours faithfully' and delete 'Yours truly'.

You will have to type 'Yours f' or 'Yours s' now before the balloon appears.

David,

It is an AUTOTEXT entry. Insert>AutoText>AutoText. Find
the offending ones and delete them. Use the same dialog
box to add your new entried or highlight text in your
document and press ALT+F3. AutoText triggers must be four
or more unique characters.
