I keep getting a message that reads "The user Authentication Method required
by this server can't be found. Please check the apple share folder in the
extensions folder and try again." every time I try and join the server from
a Mac. I went back and looked at everything and it all seems to be up to
shape. Can any one tell me what I could be missing?

Hi Ethan!

You didn't mention what version of Mac OS you're using or what you're seeing
when you look at the UAM on the Mac. Here's a link for the latest UAMs for
both Mac OS 8 & 9 and for Mac OS X
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/otherproducts/otherproducts.aspx?pid=windows200
0sfm.

Try reinstalling and see if this works.

Hope this helps! bill

Thanks bill!

That website that you included answered my question to a T. I was getting
a error -5000 and it seems to be the policies (as with most problems W2k And
2003 seem to have) Thanks again!

Ethan, I am having what looks to be the same problem connecting a Mac 9.2
machine to my windows 2003 box. What are you doing to solve it? I guess I
don't see it on that website. I am getting a user authentication error on
the Mac when I try to connect to it. Unfortunately I know nothing about Macs
and don't know where to turn.

Thanks, John Toennies

Hi John!

Have you installed the UAM?

Also, Windows 2003 Server enables by default a security policy requiring
signed network communications and I'm not sure that even the UAM does this.
Look for the Domain or Local Security Policy called Microsoft Network
Client: Digitally Sign Communications (always) and change it.

Hope this helps! bill

I had the exact same problem until I switched the following setting:

Enable Authentication - Apple Clear Text (only)

Is it giving you a SMB -5000 error? If so this is the fix courtesy of
www.macwindows.com (which is a great cross platform website)"Start" ->"Administrative Tools" -> "Domain Controller Policy" (not Domain
Policy) and look for "Security Settings" -> "Local Policies" -> "Security
Options" -> "Microsoft network server: Digitally sign communications
(always)". It should show "Enabled" by default. Double-click on it and set
to "Disabled". Then close the app and reboot the server. When it comes back
up, the Macs should connect without difficulty.
