UAC problem and camera driver

the desktop.ini files should not normaly show up, unless you have "show
hidden files and folders" set in your folder options. I'm not sure deleting
them will have any effect, but you might want to leave them just to be sure,
it could affect how your desktop is displayed.
in case you're wondering how you have 2 files with the same name in the same
folder, they're not in the same folder. one is in your personal profile, the
other is in the "Public" profile ("All Users" on XP).

Not sure about the AV, though. you might try uninstalling it, then run the
installation program as administrator. be sure to post back here if it works
(or if it doesn't).

I have tried to gain access to vista via Administrator account but can't do
it unless I go through safe mode (which I assume is not the way to install a
program). I've done many things (google it) but none have worked. I've
tried setting it to CTL-ALT-DEL to login, I've made sure Admin account is
active (not disabled) via userpasswords2, I've tried shift-F10 and alt-TAB.
How do I login as Admin?

Also, I tried MS Help's suggestion to fix the problem by going to the
program in question, right clicking, properties, compatibility mode, running
in Administrator mode, and UAC still complains. Just FYI.

I installed free antivirus software (THANK YOU CA) on my vista box, but UAC
asks if it's okay to run each time the computer starts. I turned off UAC,
and of course the problem goes away, but returns when I turn it back on (I
was hoping it would accept the virus program because it was there before
being turned on).

Is there a way around this? I don't see any where where I can choose
"remember this setting" and it doesn't seem to save on its own.

Also, anybody know a way to get my logitech camera working with vista?

Also, forgot to mention: I now have to desktop.ini files showing on the
desktop. Why? Can I safely delete them?

Thanks for the info. Yes, you are right, I have my folders set to show
hidden files, but they're showing on the desktop. Interesting. I'll try
the AV solution and will post back.

I'm also having this same problem as well, with the same anti-virus programs
as well. Anyone know how to fix this?

I'm beginning to think there is no fix short of turning off UAC, which I
don't want to do (I think UAC is a good idea). I wish there was a "remember
this setting" button for UAC, which the firewall/security programs I've used
in the past always had. Hint, hint.

Okay, I finally tried to uninstall and reinstall in Admin account using
safemode (couldn't figure out how to get into Admin account any other way)
and the problem still exists, so this is not a fix. I will monitor the NG
to see if someone does come up with a solution.

In the meantime I see no alternative to turning UAC off. It doesn't bother
me as much now, though, as I didn't need a password to access the
Administrator account (and install the virus software) in safemode. I hope
this password not being required problem is because of a setting I changed
or because the software is a beta, as it defeats ALL of the security built
into Vista.

I still haven't found a solution either. you can set a password for the admin
account. control panel->user accounts->Advanced
options->advanced->advanced->users, right click administrator, and "set
password". (a lot of steps, I know.) when I set up my system, it asked me to
create a new admin account, and automatically disabled the built-in one.

Thanks again. I was very unhappy when I could access the system without a
password. The UAC problem I can live with till there's a fix.

I've contacted the antivirus company and they're going to look into the
problem at their end. I will update if it is resolved at that end.

Solved the camera problem. Just used the driver "on the disk." When
everything else fails go back and RTM. =)
