typing problems

when I try to write an email or type anything, the computer develops a mind of its own. Instead of typing in a continuous line, the next things I type are put into the line above, the middle of another word etc. It is driving me crazy@@@@

Does anyone have any ideas on what is causing this to happen? Thanks
