Typing http before web address

I have noticed a wierd problem with my IE6. I work on a laptop that I
connect either through my work server, or via a modem when I am on the road.
When I am on the network through the ethernet, I don't need to enter http://
before each web address as IE puts it in for me. However, when I am on the
modem, I have to enter http://, or it won't take me to the web page. Any
ideas what settings I should look to change?

Thanks!

Verify the following entries are correct in the Registry:

fix]
@="http://"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\Prefixes]
"ftp"="ftp://"
"gopher"="gopher://"
"home"="http://"
"mosaic"="http://"
"www"="http://"
