I have a Dell Inspiron Notebook E1505 with Vista and I have recently run into
a problem. Everytime I type on the address bar or word document the
characters typed are not what is typed on the address bar or word document.
When I try to type www it will type w2w2w2. Not all letters typed will type
a number, but most will type a number. When I type numbers then letters will
type in front of them, but not all numbers. My grandson recently played a
game, would that have caused that to happen and how can I correct or stop
this. Thank you. P.S. I am typing on my Desktop.

Did your grandson play or download the game from the internet? If so, it's
likely your laptop is now infected with a virus or some sort of malware. Do
you have anti virus and anti malware software installed? Is it up to date.
Do complete scans with whatever you have installed and see what they tell
you.

I was afraid of that. My grandson is only 6 and he was playing at the Disney
website. I don't think he downloaded anything. Where do I find
anti-malware. I have McAfee and scanning the laptop now. Thanks

I'm not sure if it is a virus that caused this, but one way to prevent
young children or otherwise naive users from damaging your machine by
downloading something bad is to set up a separate account for them. I
usually use an administrative account when I'm working on a Vista
machine. If I do anything which requires the administrative rights, I
have to click the UAC prompt.

My children have standard accounts, and our main PC (often used by
visitors - children or otherwise) has an account called "Visitors" set
up. These are standard accounts, and if they try to do anything
needing admin rights they're prompted for an administrative username
and password - this effectively prevents them from causing system-wide
damage which would effect other users.

In this particular case, I suspect a physical fault rather than a
software one - try plugging in an external keyboard. Do you get the
same problem? If not, then it's likely to be a problem with the laptop
keyboard.

Well guess what? I tried another keyboard and....no typing problems! So
it's the keyboard. My laptop is still under warranty and so I will call them
tomorrow as too tired tonight. I hope it is repairable! Thanks everyone for
helping as I don't feel so alone when a problem like this comes along. Happy
Super Bowl results for those who are fans! I'm a Cowboy fan!
