Someone told me about file/save as .mht type for my web site pages. I have
8 pages in my web site (ymmartin.com) and I saved each page as a .mht file
in my documents folder called "my web pages". The problem I encounter is
when I open the .mht file on my computer to look at the web page, it changes
my IE toolbar from what it was before the open.... the view is changed and
view options changed because before the open I have checked show address and
after the open it is unchecked and then gone? I changed it back again to
what it was before the open and then again opened the .mht and in doing so
my IE toolbar is changed and is not what I want it to be, once again the
address tool disappeared.....since I have locked my toolbar why is IE
changing it.....????????.

Maybe I don't understand what .mht files are actually for....???

Someone else said I could use an .mht file for OE stationery that I have
created and then send to someone that doesn't use OE so they could see my
stationery. That sounded good to me because very few of my friends have and
use OE but instead have yahoo email accounts or msn or AOL or even
Incredimail all of which can not view OE stationery as it is intended to be
seen in full action and beauty. I have tried at length and couldn't get that
to work satisfactorily and finally gave up? I was concerned and skeptical
about using .mht files for this purpose since OE doesn't have the .mht type
in its file/save as.

If anyone in this group has user experience with .mht files that could help
me I would greatly appreciate your consideration of this matter.

Thanks, Yolanda

Just specify .mht as an extension when you do File, Save As...

I don't use Stationery so I don't know if saving that as .mht would
look sufficiently like an .mht file for IE. The example that I use
to test and demonstrate the technique is to start from an web page
in IE and then use its File, Send, Page by E-mail command.
That opens an OE composition window where you can do the File, Save As...
specifying the .mht extension. Then you can open that again in IE.

%USERPROFILE%\My Documents\Emailing_ ymmartin_com_htm.mht

Hmm... when I do a View Source on that it isn't clear at all where the
images are coming from even though I have Work Offline set.
E.g. they might be coming from the TIF. Viewing the file in Notepad
shows that many images are being saved Base64 but I suppose to really
prove that they aren't coming from the TIF I would have to clear the TIF
which I really don't want to do.

As an alternative to doing an immediate File, Save As... I also tried
a File, Send Later and then did a File Save As...

%USERPROFILE%\My Documents\Emailing_ ymmartin_com_htm_SL.mht

of the message in the Outbox (actually instead of switching to the Outbox
I just used a Find window and used its File, Save As... command
to create that file. The file is larger than the first but I think essentially the
same. E.g. I suspect the main discrepancy is the duplication of the text
in order to create a text/plain version. IE opens them both the same.

FWIW here are the actual two file sizes as displayed by dir *.mht

<example>
2006-04-21 19:06 498,776 Emailing_ ymmartin_com_htm.mht
2006-04-21 19:22 616,407 Emailing_ ymmartin_com_htm_SL.mht
</example>

and ICIM my IE is IE7b2p2.

If anyone in this group has user experience with .mht files that could help
me I would greatly appreciate your consideration of this matter.

Thanks, Yolanda

Yolanda,

I just remembered that you tried to reply to me by E-mail only.
FWIW AFAICT there is no difference when I use my procedure
with File, Send, Page by E-mail to OE and then File, Save As... .mht
with IE7 or IE6. I am currently using IE6 again after uninstalling IE7b2p2.

In either case I do not get any changes to my IE toolbar customization
when I open that saved .mht.

Just so we are comparing the same things, please try my procedure
and see if your toolbar problem occurs that way. If it doesn't it could imply
that the symptom is due to the specific .mht file that you are testing.

Another possibility I suppose would be if you have a third-party popup
controller active, which might be mistaking the .mht as a popup which
it decides to allow (e.g. thinking of the case that the popup controller
would also take charge of the the popup window's attributes.) Etc.

In any case, one thing you could try when this happens is cloning the window
(e.g. with Ctrl-N) just to see if the cloned windows layout is altered too.
If not you would be able to close the the altered window and then close
the clone and thus expect that your preferred layout would be preserved
with just that little intervention by you instead of the complete manual
restoration you appear to have been using so far.

If I have misinterpreted what you wrote me please reply to the thread
in case someone else has any better suggestions for you.
