Hi all,

I have a strange problem here. Hopefully at least one of
you has some insight.

We run a native Windows 2000 domain with Windows XP Pro
clients. All the clients were built using the same drive
image.

We use DameWare to do remote control when users call in
with problems. DameWare uses the browse list to get its
list of computers in the domain. Some of our computers
are not on the list. Herein lies the problem.

The computers that do not show up on the list are on the
domain, you can ping them by IP and DNS address. The
users don't report any strange problems. However, if you
do a NET VIEW, the PCs aren't in that list, and if you
open up ol' NT Server Manager, the PCs show up but are
grayed out.

We have one WINS server, and the entries for those PCs
are correct in WINS. Everything looks right in DNS, too.

One more thing. If you open up My Network Places in XP
and look in Entire Network, our domain name, the PCs
don't show up in there either. However, if you right-
click My Network Places and do a search for one of them,
it comes up. Once you have it, and you right-click it and
show properties, for Type:, it says Lanman Professional.
All the others say Windows Professional. This is the only
thing I can find that sets them apart from the PCs that
are listed correctly. I have searched all over MSs site
for a solution and can't find one. Any ideas from the
community?

Thanks,
Ryan

Did you use SYPREP before you created the image or a third party SID changer
after the image was deployed?
