Type alignment within a table

I am trying to create a list of countries within one column within a table.
My desire is to have two columns of country names in the following fashion

Andorra Malta
Austria Monaco
blah Blah

Each of these country names are hyperlinked to a page describing each country.

The site is designed for a cellular phone website based on a browser
implemented by Blackberry. Although the browser is advertised as able to
handle tables it appears that it does not do so well. Originally, I tried to
solve the problem using a two column table, but the browser will not access
the names in the second column. So, I changed to a one column presentation
and attempted to space the names into two vertical columns using the
spacebar. My desire is to have the names in both the first and second name
columns vertically aligned. Unfortunately, I have been unable to align the
names in the second column. When I view them either in IE or the phone
browser, the names in the second column are offset frome each other.

I have tried fixed fonts and TrueType. I suspect that kerning is the
problem but I cannot figure out how to solve the problem. Does anyone have
any suggestions for me?
Thanks, very much

You could also insert a two column table into this column.
