Type a line with separation to make 2 lines on the same line

I need to insert a line over my name and a separate line over the date, both on the same line. When I space over to start the second line, the 2 lines automatically join into the same line. Is there a way I can make 2 separate lines on the same line? Please help. Thank You.

Hit undo immediately after the page-width line appears.
